Anatomy of a Grow House- Government Creating Social Problems

In January, 2011, a home in the Seattle area caught fire, which police later revealed was the result of a marijuana growing operation. Marijuana plants, they said, were being grown in several rooms. From the Pacific Northwest to the Florida Keys, grow houses have been the targets of local and state authorities as they try to thwart growers who often rent out homes in order to convert them into indoor farms.

Profitable Venture

Such operations involve a lot of equipment, and require a lot of electricity, with power needed to run grow lights, ballasts, pumps, timers and other devices used in the hydroponic gardening process. Police estimate that a single-family home can be used to produce as much as six million dollars’ worth of marijuana each year. High electric bills aren’t any more likely to discourage growers than are mortgages or rental payments.

On The Case

Police have honed their approach to tracking down illegal growers (although the criminal onus is shifting away as of late, with more states legalizing “medical marijuana”). It no longer takes blind luck, such as a house fire or a burglary reported by a neighbor. For instance, authorities have been able to forge agreements with trash collectors, who will report any suspicious items in the garbage – and they’ve been briefed on what to look for, such as “root balls”, irrigation hoses or fertilizer bags.

They also note that houses that are rigged with mobile-track grow lights, timer-controlled watering systems and hydroponic growing mediums may not have any space suited for living conditions. This means that the house will spend most of its time unoccupied, with someone stopping by only once in a while to make sure the operations is functioning properly. Growers take as much pride in their craft as the police do in stopping them.

Is the U.S. Headed Toward a Socialist Government?

t22The premature and thoroughly ridiculous chorus that has reverberated around our country ever since Barack Obama became president, is that now the United States is headed toward Socialism. The troubling aspect is that many who echo those sentiments don’t actually know what Socialism is, they merely parrot the “intellectuals” they listen to on Talk Radio. The word “Socialism” is trotted out anytime some wag wants to attack or diminish another person’s viewpoint. When people hear the word, they immediately think of drab conditions and people wandering around deserted cities and waiting in food-lines and basically living a miserable life. Now while many socialist countries have failed, there are certain aspects of Socialism that can be a benefit to any society.

What Is Socialism

Technically Socialism is the economic branch of Communism. Much like Capitalism is the economic arm of Democracy. But to those who fear the encroaching shadow of Socialism, they might open there eyes and realize that aspects of socialism already exist in our country. And many of them are beneficiaries of said policies. How about Public Schools, what about unemployment insurance and let’s not forget everybody’s favorite, Social Security. Yes people shout that it was something that they paid into, but what they don’t realize is that they get the money they put in back in about six years, the rest is picked up by the government.

Don’t Worry, It Won’t Happen

Besides, the true rulers of our country, big business, is not about to let anyone stop you from going online and purchasing generic 108r00724 ink cartridge. It’s not Socialism that people should worry about, but the politicians who lead this great democracy. They are the elected officials who are supposed to look out for the welfare of the people, but that just isn’t the case. After all, what with the Wall Street melt-down, the dastardly practices of banks and the lax attitude of BP, we really get to see who’s in charge. And since everybody loves the Free Market and commerce, guess which country has perhaps the most stable economy in the world? Yes, Germany, a Social Democracy.

As one wise man said, “It’s not that Socialism or Capitalism can’t ultimately work, it’s just that nobody plays by the rules.”

Have Mug, Will Travel

mugEvery popular item that one finds on the shelf has an offshoot counterpart, basically a testament to its success in the marketplace, easily demonstrated at every major intersection where a McDonalds always seems to be located across the street from a Burger King. Therefore, when one ponders whether or not to splurge on an advertising campaign featuring coffee mugs, one might also consider printing up promotional travel mugs.

Society On The Move

Ever since Henry Ford’s assembly line, America society has been on the move. The time spent behind the wheel only increased when President Dwight Eisenhower invested a huge chunk of the federal budget in the national highway system. As our city-bound populations tumbled out into the suburbs, the seatbelted citizenry even began taking their meals, sometimes all three of them, from the confines of the driver’s seat.

Make That ‘To-Go’

Traditional coffee mugs proved to be not up to the task. And cleaning up spilled coffee, tea or soup became a sticky proposition for commuters. Travel mugs, based on same design as the canteen-like Thermos, not only provided a lid to keep beverages from slopping out but also kept them hotter (or colder) than could regular mugs. Just as many people became partial to their coffee mugs, they also became rather attached to their travel mugs, which only enhanced the mobile vessel’s promotional appeal.

The promotions industry (and the companies that steer so much business their way) were quick to take advantage of the American love affair with dining and driving. Today’s printed travel mugs can be made of plastic or metal, in an array of colors that spans the spectrum, and can still be emblazoned with all kinds of corporate logos, for prices only slightly higher than those of ceramic coffee mugs. Drink up!

Going Back Across the Pond

80, 19The overwhelming majority of American history and culture finds its roots in Great Britain and Ireland. Their people were among the first waves of immigrants to reach the New World, transforming colonial outposts such as Boston and New York into teeming cities that remain our nation’s hubs of commerce and enterprise. It only seems logical, then, that so many Americans of Irish and British heritage would want to return to the homelands of their forefathers.

From Stone Blocks to Gold Records

When looking to book passage across the once-treacherous Atlantic, most vacationers find that the Contiki Great Britain and Ireland tour packages provide them with the greatest ease and convenience. Some will drink in the exhilarating mysteries of Stonehenge. Others will revel in Contiki’s Magical Mystery Beatles Tour in the Fab Four’s hometown of Liverpool. The Roman city of Bath rounds out a myriad experience that has no match – and that’s just the beginning.

You Take The High Road; I’ll Take the Low Road

After a trip to Edinburgh, where history was drawn into the soil with blood-tipped swords, Contiki takes you to the Scottish Highlands. There, you can sip on the whisky, peruse the Birthplace of Golf (St. Andrews) or take an exciting cruise on the hallowed surface of Loch Ness. In the Western swing of the Highlands, you’ll stare up at the gothic cathedrals of Glasgow, or bow your head humbly before the monument to William Wallace.

The trip ends in Ireland, where you’ll be lucky if you don’t wipe the whole thing from your memory, as many pints of Guinness are sure to flow. In between Dublin and Londonderry, you’ll bear witness to the Giant’s Causeway, a natural formation of 40,000 rock packed together in columns measuring over 36 feet. All of the sights will combine to form a panoramic question in your mind when it comes to those first brave souls that came to America: How could they have left all of this behind?

Taking The PMP Exam

it 5Over the last few years the PMP Exam has become the gold standard of certification for IT Professionals who want to advance their careers. If you’re thinking about taking the PMP Exam here’s what you need to know before getting started.

The Exam

The PMP Exam is a lot like the ITIL Exam and the ITAA Exam in that it requires serious dedication and investment in preparation for the exam. It pays to invest the time and money in preparation because you’re making an investment in yourself that will pay off big time during your career.

Once you sit down to take the exam you will have 4 hours to answer 200 questions. Before you get started ask the examiner for a sheet of paper to write down any formulas or tools that you can use to help you on the test. If you don’t know the answer to certain questions you can always come back to them later and if you can’t think of an answer in the end just guess because there is no penalty for incorrect answers.

If you Finish The Test Early

When you finish the exam and see that you have a few minutes left over try going back over your answers and reviewing them. Sometimes you will come up with better answers for questions that you already answered or you will come up with answers to questions that left you stumped.

If you fail the PMP Exam you will receive a report about how you did on the exam. You should study this report and find out where you were weak on the exam so you can go back and improve yourself in those areas. At least one year after you first take the test you will have the ability to re-test again at least three times.

The High-End Umbrella

umb 4One who has an interest in the umbrella, as a collector’s item or as fashion accessory, will quickly learn that some umbrellas and parasols can get quite expensive. Sure you could start a collection of promotional umbrellas of all shapes and sizes that wouldn’t cost you much, but to become a connoisseur, it is the rarer and more beautifully made umbrellas or parasols that will engage your interest and money.

Start Small

Some people like shoes, some purses and bags, others eyewear and of course, many fashionistas love umbrellas. Start slowly and cheaply and before long you’ll have a closet or urn near the door, filled with numerous umbrellas and parasols. Starting at the top and out of reach of most umbrella lovers is a Louis Vuitton for 700.00, with a beautifully designed black top and straight gold handle, this umbrella reeks class. Or how about 600.00 for an Arc en Ciel umbrella. You can pick up a Can Can parasol(250.00) with a design of ever-decreasing circles, like a delicate flower. The colors are light and feminine; pink peach, lavender and more.

Beautiful, But Reasonable

For much less money, the savvy umbrella lover can still build an impressive collection of beautiful umbrellas and parasols. Another popular design is the exotic pagoda. The pagoda has more pronounced curved panels with a larger extended tip. The pagoda is the favorite style of geishas and Charlie Chan. The H. Due Pinstripe Pagoda is a rich red pagoda that costs only 40.00. A Pagoda Bridal has a white, intricate design with many panels and frills on the end, this runs for 80.00. The ever striking polka dot umbrella can be had in many colors. You can pick one up for 65.00 at Brollies Galore. Many of these umbrellas, especially the hip bubble umbrellas, have matching boots and gloves to complete the look.

If your happy with your batch of promotional umbrellas that’s fine, but if you want to expand your collection, there’s a vast variety of umbrellas available.

How To Save Money On Car Insurance If You’re Under Age 25

in 14Are you under the age of 25 and frustrated with the high car insurance bill that you get every month? You’re not alone. Everyone from age 15 to 25 pays more for car insurance because of the age group they are in. Many car insurance companies charge more for younger drivers by default and you can get around this by finding another car insurance company to get your car insured through.

Know The Coverage That You Need

If you’re driving a 1999 Toyota Celica and have a full coverage policy you’re paying to much for car insurance. Most states only require you to have a minimum amount of car insurance and you can save money by going with the least amount of coverage that you need. Car insurance experts agree that a good amount of coverage to have is $50,000 bodily injury, $100,000 for all people injured in the accident and $25,000 to cover property damage.

Research Pays Off

Just because you want cheap car insurance that doesn’t mean that you should sign up with the first company that offers a good cheap deal. Before you sign a policy make sure that you research that company with the Better Business Bureau or Standard And Poor Index rating to make sure they are legit and have a good record with few complaints. You can also make sure that you’re getting a good car insurance company by checking their customer service to see if people are actually there when you call because there’s nothing more frustrating than calling with a question and not being able to get an answer.

Last of all before you sign make sure that you’re not giving up your right to sue because some car insurance companies are sneaky and can get you to give up your rights without you even knowing it.

How To Find A New Or Used Car Loan

car loan 11We’ve all seen the latest commercials of the new Mustang or Acura and the payment that the dealer is advertising looks affordable at only $350.00 per month but can you really afford it? A car loan of $15,000 could cost you over $4,000 per year in payments and even more with interest rates. Before you go to the dealer and sign for that new car loan take the time to figure out your budget and honestly evaluate if you can afford the payment or not. You should also factor in the costs associated with car insurance, maintenance and gas before you decide to purchase a new or used vehicle.

Review More Than One Lender

One of the ways to getting into the car of your dreams is by getting a great car loan. You can find a car loan with an affordable interest rate by searching through the wide variety of lenders that are available online. You can gain access to these lenders just by doing a simple search on Google to see what lenders are out there waiting for you.

The Car Loan A, B, C

Before you sign for a car loan make sure that you put as much money down as possible because the more money that you put down will help you to get a better loan with a lower interest rate than you would get if you had to borrow more money. Many car loans experts recommend that you pay at least 20% of the cars purchase price for your down payment. You should also make sure that the lender that you choose won’t penalize you for paying off your loan quickly because even though you may want to pay the loan off quickly the lender could see things differently and penalize you for doing your due diligence with your loan.

rv2.8Not all RV’s area created equal. This is something that you might not think about when you’re traveling down the road and see RV’s traveling to different destinations. There are two kinds of popular RVS they are C Class RV’s and A Class RV’s. A Class C RV is a rig with a bunk over the cab and varies in length from 22 to 31 feet long. Before You Rent An RV

One of the most important parts to renting an RV is thoroughly checking it out to make sure that it’s in proper running condition before you hit the road. Supplies To Bring On Your RV Trip

Knowledge is power when planning an RV Trip and you should take the time to think about all the comforts of home that you would want with you on your trip so you don’t think about what you should have brought with you when you’re out on the open road. Some of the most basic things to bring on any RV trip are enough bedding for everyone who will be sleeping in the RV, plenty of towels, wash cloths, pots, pans and silverware. You might also want to bring your own laundry soap so you can do laundry when out on the road.

Most RV Rental companies offer housekeeping packages that you can rent to furnish the RV with all the comforts of home.

Taking an RV vacation will be a fun experience for you and your family. Don’t forget to bring your digital camera or camcorder with you to record the many new places and experiences that you will remember for years to come.

How to Balance Work and Being a Mom

mom 12Although there’s been a lot of progress in the world since the 1950s, it’s still much harder for women to balance work and family life than it is for men. Men become dads and continue working while women have to take a break to give birth and raise an infant. Even the most easy birth is difficult to recover from quickly enough to get immediately back into the workforce. And if you, like many moms, take some time off to care for your kids, it can be incredibly difficult to get yourself back out there, away from the kids and back to work.

Scheduling is Important

One of the most important things you can do when you’re trying to balance work and family life is to make sure you’ve got a good schedule and know exactly what hours you’re expected to be at work and what hours you need to be at home. You’ve got to make a good effort to keep to the schedule, so that neither your work nor your kids are being neglected. If it looks like there’s not enough time in the day consider getting a sitter or finding daycare, or consider working from home. Working from home isn’t a cure all, it’s still very difficult to balance with taking care of your kids, but it can be easier to schedule for strange hours.

Take Time for you

Between work and home it can be very easy to forget that you need time to yourself to recharge and keep a positive outlook on life. And don’t forget to keep the romance and love in your marriage alive as well. If it seems like a lot to juggle, that’s because it is. Inevitably one or another of the things here is going to suffer, and when that happens you’ve got to reassess and try to get back where you want to be. It is possible to have a career and children, but it will take sacrifice and a real commitment.
